Port Venus
is a typical village located on the Ligurian coast of the province of La Spezia, in Italy. The city has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers spectacular views of the surrounding coastline. The city is characterized by the Church of San Pietro, which offers a panoramic view of the town and the sea surrounded by cliffs and sea caves, including the famous Grotta dell'Arpaia. Porto Venere is also an important marina and offers many activities for visitors. These include boat rental to explore the coast and surrounding islands. Do not overlook a visit to the main monuments including the Doria Castle, located on top of a hill and a visit to the Church of San Pietro, a Romanesque church built on the ancient rock.
In the bay of Porto Venere there are three islands: Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, which constitute a treasure of natural beauty, history and culture.
Cinque Terre
Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso are five characteristic villages located on the coast. The villages are, each of which has its own personality and charm.
The territory is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The surrounding hills are planted with terraced vineyards, which produce the famous wine.
For many years, the Marine Protected Area of the Cinque Terre was established to protect the ecosystem characterized by a great biodiversity, with numerous species of fish, molluscs and algae.
The protected area offers many activities for visitors, including scuba diving, boat excursions, snorkelling and bird watching.
The best way to visit the Cinque Terre is on foot along the panoramic paths that connect all the villages and offer spectacular views of the coast; or by train from La Spezia or by boat from Porto Venere, which allow you to move easily from one town to another.
La Spezia and its Gulf
The city of La Spezia is known for its port, but also for its museums and art galleries, including the National Transport Museum, the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Amedeo Lia Museum, the Diocesan, the Seal Museum, the Giovanni Podenzana Ethnographic Museum, the Palazzina delle Arti LR Rosaia, the Naval Technical Museum, the San Giorgio Castle.
Its gulf embraces four typical villages of the La Spezia seafaring tradition that are certainly worth a visit: Marola, Cadimare, Fezzano, Le Grazie.
The Gulf of Poets
The area takes its name from the many poets and writers who have stayed here, including Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and DH Lawrence and have drawn inspiration for their own works.
The Gulf of Poets is characterized by a series of picturesque bays and inlets, with cliffs overlooking the sea and ancient fishing villages. The landscape is dominated by green hills overlooking the sea, creating a unique and romantic atmosphere.
Among the most famous places in the Gulf of Poets are Lerici, Tellaro and Fiascherino. Furthermore, the Golfo dei Poeti offers numerous activities for tourists, including excursions on foot or by bicycle along the panoramic paths, boat trips to admire the coast from the sea, and tastings of local food and wine.
Val di Magra, the Apuan Alps and Versilia
Val di Magra is a valley crossed by the river Magra, it is characterized by green hills, rivers and charming villages, which offer an authentic experience of the rural life of the place.
The valley is also famous for its wine production, with several wineries offering tastings of local wines.
Among the most beautiful villages in the Val di Magra are Castelnuovo Magra and Fosdinovo, medieval villages located on a hill overlooking the Apuan Alps, and Sarzana, a fortified city with a medieval and Renaissance historical centre.
The Apuan Alps and Versilia are popular tourist destinations in the neighboring region of Tuscany. Characterized by the natural beauty of the Apuan Alps, with their steep peaks and green valleys, and by the beaches of Versilia, characterized by long stretches of sand.
